How do the least saturated AI markets compare?

Saturation is FalcoScan's 0 to 100 score for how crowded a market is, so the lowest scores mark the markets where competition is thinnest. Opportunity, on the same scale, is FalcoScan's estimate of how much demand there is to serve. The chart puts the two side by side for the ten least saturated markets.

Shut-down rate is shut-down products as a percentage of every product tracked in the market. Catalog-wide it is 7.3%. Source: FalcoScan catalog, data updated 25 September 2026. The full ranking of all 29 markets is in what are the most competitive AI markets.

What do the least saturated AI markets have in common?

They are small. The ten least saturated markets hold 1,286 active products between them, 17% of the 7,440 across all 29 markets. Eight of the ten have fewer than half as many active products as the median market, which has 301.

They also score higher on opportunity: 77 on average across the ten, against 57 for the ten most saturated markets. Part of that is by design, since FalcoScan's opportunity model takes competitive saturation into account.

Seven of the ten have no tracked product scoring 60 or more on wrapper risk: Healthcare, Legal, Real Estate, 3D & AR/VR, Avatars, Human Resources and Automation. None of the products FalcoScan has scored in them looks like a thin layer over someone else's model.

Which low-saturation markets are small or losing products?

Low saturation can mean few teams have tried a market, or that teams tried and left. The shut-down rate separates the two.

Gaming (31.8%, 28 of 88), Avatars (23.9%, 22 of 92), Music (23.2%, 19 of 82), 3D & AR/VR (17.6%, 15 of 85) and Real Estate (15.2%, 17 of 112) have lost products at twice the catalog-wide rate of 7.3% or more. All of them are also small, with between 60 and 95 active products each. In these markets a low saturation score describes a thin field, and part of the reason it is thin is products that did not last.

Two markets pair low saturation with a shut-down rate below the catalog's: Healthcare (3.2%, 239 active products) and Automation (3.9%, 324 active products). They are also the largest of the ten, so their low saturation rests on the most evidence.

What does low saturation mean for founders and investors?

If you are building. Low saturation is a reason to look at a market, not a reason to enter it. The least saturated markets are also the smallest, and several of them lose products well above the catalog rate, so check the product count and the shut-down count on the market page before reading thin competition as an opening.

If you are investing. The pairing worth looking for is low saturation with a low shut-down rate, because it means products in the market are finding buyers and staying. In the current data that is Healthcare and Automation.

How does FalcoScan measure saturation?

Every product in the catalog carries a saturation score and an opportunity score, each from 0 to 100, and a market's figures are the averages across its products, recomputed every day. FalcoScan also checks whether each product is still running: a product counts as shut down once it is marked dead, while acquired products are not counted as shut down.
