What Literal Labs does
Literal Labs' ModelMill platform trains Logic-Based Networks, an alternative to neural networks that replaces floating-point multiplication with propositional logic, which the company says delivers up to 54x faster inference and 52x lower energy use at comparable accuracy. The models deploy to ARM, RISC-V, x86 and microcontroller hardware with no GPU or cloud dependency, targeting anomaly detection, predictive maintenance and industrial time-series use cases. Literal Labs was spun out of Newcastle University in 2023 by Professor Alex Yakovlev and Professor Rishad Shafik, later joined by ex-Arm VP Noel Hurley as CEO.
