What NovaSky Sky-T1 does
NovaSky Sky-T1 is an open reasoning model, Sky-T1-32B-Preview, from the NovaSky team at UC Berkeley's Sky Computing Lab, which the team reports performs on par with o1-preview on reasoning and coding benchmarks. It is aimed at the academic and open-source communities that want to train and study reasoning models themselves. The model was fine-tuned from Qwen2.5-32B-Instruct on about 17K examples covering coding, math, science and puzzles, with training taking 19 hours on 8 H100 GPUs. The team releases the model weights on Hugging Face, the training data, code for data building, training and evaluation through the SkyThought repository, and a technical report. The team states the full training run cost under $450.
